Why not go a bit cheap and go 818? It's like building a Locost and you have so many options - either Left or Right-hand-drive, a multitude of Subaru engines and parts, etc... And it costs less than an FRS/BRZ! Sure, you might lose a few things (backseat for instance), but it's a Mid-engined, RWD car!

I've been debating on the "R" version for my next track car.
C5 Z06 is the other option.
Mainly, I go back and forth as to whether I want a new project or just want to get my ass in a car.

After so many months, too. :/
They can build kit cars but a DVD takes this long?

Grassroots Motorsports is building one if you want to follow along. It's a series in the magazine or their website.

I wouldn't be surprised if every Jalop falls under this category (me included.)
It's either a dedicated track car or a track/daily combi.

I have absolutely zero interest in a BRZ or FRS. I guess I'm a minority

I was very very interested in this car until they choose the final body design. Some of the designs that were submitted were quite a bit better looking. Some didn't even have a hint of being a kit car, the issue is this looks like a kit car. It didn't have to. Yes it would have cost a slight bit more but I think the majority of people would have paid the higher price for something that doesn't look like a car from burnout paradise.

The thing is, people would rather have something that's not a wolf in sheep's clothing. And the designs that you mentioned fall under that category. Yes, it could have looked better but remember, better looking doesn't mean it's advantageous in a functional form.

People would rather have a kit car look like a kit car? I...don't know anyone that feels that way. The better designs were not that much different from the current form, slight tweaks. They cut them out for cost not because it influenced function.

Still, I doubt you want to sell an unsuspecting buyer a faux exotic when it's a kit car. Again - I'm not looking at a cost standpoint moreso than a car that's that - a car. A car that people favor for looks does not belong on a track.

The issue is, your saying good looking automatically creates a bad track car and that couldn't be further from the truth. Porsche and Aston for example make fantastic looking gt3 cars. They belong on the track. They look good.

Sure, there's always an exception, however - a majority of the time, it is pedantic to design something on the basis of beauty as a means for a track day car.

You may be in the minority but you're not alone. I've no interest either. Now if they ever get off their asses and put a turbo engine in them...
